Wellness Toolbox Series, Part 4: Hope for the Holidays

The winter months and holiday season bring joy, but they also bring demanding year-end deadlines, darker days, and unique stressors for defenders. Join us for a restorative panel presentation and discussion introducing Washington Lawyers Assisting Lawyers (WALAL), a dedicated network built by attorneys, for attorneys.

Discover how peer support can help you navigate professional pressures, and walk away with practical, actionable tips and tricks to maintain your physical, mental, and emotional well-being through the winter season.

What you’ll learn: How to access confidential peer support, strategies for boundary-setting during the holidays, and daily habits to boost your mood and energy.

Who should attend: Any defender looking to protect their peace and finish the year strong.

Leslie Hagin is President of WALAL. She has personal experience with addiction, trauma, and other life and career challenges. Her legal experience includes criminal defense practice and service on the Board of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).

Jacalyn Brudvik served as a Snohomish County Superior Court Commissioner from September 1998 to January 2021. Prior to joining the bench, she was a public defender in King and Snohomish Counties, working in the areas of felonies, dependencies, juvenile offenders, and misdemeanors. She also served as a coordinator at the SCRAP division of King County DPD.

Carole Grayson’s career has been a natural bridge to mentoring law students and lawyers through their own twists and turns. She is a founding board member of WALAL and serves as adjunct faculty at UW School of Law (E536 Small and Solo Practice, since 2011). She spent the first 2+ decades of her career primarily as a criminal defense attorney. Carole has served on the WSBA Senior Lawyers Section executive committee since 2007, including as section chair, CLE committee chair, and newsletter editor. She retired in 2017 after 16 years as director of UW Student Legal Services, where she hired and supervised Rule 9 licensed legal interns.

Free and open to all defenders. Virtual. 1 CLE & 1 CEU credit approved. For more info, contact Recruit.Retain@opd.wa.gov.
